2019 TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

Keith Griffiths Master Squash Coach

Keith Griffiths is a Canadian based English SRA Level 4 coach, German DSRV Level A and Canadian NCCP ongoing Level 4  who recently visited our shores to conduct coaching clinics in Trinidad and Tobago for juniors and adults. Griffiths has a prolific squash coaching career spanning 45 years all over the world countries include Canada, England, Denmark, Finland, Spain, France, Monaco, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and Germany. He earned several accolades including the title of “The Most Successful German Coach Ever”, he coached ten world-ranked players who accumulated 12 senior national and international titles, and also juniors who accumulated 21 national and international titles and coached 14 players who were members of Ivy and Varsity Squash League teams in the US. and Canada.
Keith’s First Visit
Keith first visited Trinidad and Tobago in February 2019 and worked closely with the Trinidad and Tobago national junior and senior squash teams for six (6) sessions and this paved the way for a formal invitation by Queen’s Park Cricket Club Squash Section, chaired by champion veteran squash player Richard Hart to visit in April/May 2019.
Keith’s Second Visit
The second time around, Keith was invited back to Trinidad & Tobago to expand on the work he did in February. The first port of call was Tobago, while in Tobago he visited several schools to asses the level of interest in squash at the grass roots level, with a view to implementing a schools squash program. The vision is to introduce squash to all schools on the island. The squash facilities of Tobago were also checked including the Grafton Hotel, where the premier squash facilities are based on the island. This has now created a pathway for the commencement of a grass roots developmental programme for squash, to increase awareness, interest and participation in the sport of squash on Tobago.
Keith visited Bishop’s High School in Scarborough and thanks to Principal Ramnarine, was able to use the Multipurpose Hall to transform it into three “mini” squash courts. The children were exposed to the rudiments of squash, the use of hand-eye coordination, camaraderie and social skills and the interest and exuberance that they demonstrated was extremely heart-warming. The kids all had fun and were eager to engage and begin their new “squash adventure”.

2015 PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND CANADA

 Review from the PEI Camp

To whom it may concern On the 4th till the 7th Dec 2015 a few players participated in an intense squash camp at the Spa Total Fitness Center in Charlottetown PEI. The coach was Keith Griffiths from Burlington, who we felt was more than qualified to run the camp. We were all excited to receive instruction from such a veteran of the game who had played top level squash and coached world top ten junior and professionals (men and women) alike.
I only started playing squash when I was 26, and was instantly hooked. One might say I caught (and still have) that delightful squash bug! I therefore am determined to keep improving and continue to immerse myself in this game. When the opportunity to receive instruction from this top-level coach presented, I seized it and joined the group. I am currently 30 years old and play at A-level, and am proud to say that I represented PEI at the Nationals team’s event on 2 occasions. Keith’s sessions demanded we understand why and what one needs to do in match situations.
Keith and his knowledge of the game provided me with the tactics needed to better use my strengths. He clearly showed me what was needed to reach the next level and then had me striving to reach it. Keith stressed the importance of consistency and competitiveness. There were 4 players enrolled in the camp. One amazing talent that Keith has was his ability to coach us all individually and then integrating these new skills in a group setting. It was brilliant that everyone understood exactly what was required and in so doing we were able to progress and perform more advanced drills together. Keith referred to this technique as “progressions” and he is a master at doing this. Keith was very engaging on the court and, with his countless squash stories he proved very entertaining off the court.
The entire group really enjoyed the experience. I was so pleased to have participated in the camp and look forward to the opportunity to work with Keith again.
